Amazon has recently introduced passkey support for its desktop websites and mobile applications. This new feature enables customers to log into their accounts without having to enter a password.

Passkeys offer enhanced security compared to passwords because they cannot be shared or leaked like passwords. Unlike passwords, passkeys do not require users to remember them or use two-factor authentication. However, they do require a verified device.

To set up passkeys on Amazon, users can go to their account settings and enable the feature on their iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Once enabled, users can log in to their Amazon account using Face ID or Touch ID. To enable passkeys, users should navigate to Your Account, then Login and Security, and select the Set up option next to Passkeys.

Apple came out with passkey support in iOS 16 and in macOS Ventura. Passkeys function by using a public key stored on a website server and a private key stored on a specific device. On Apple devices, passkeys are authenticated using Face ID or Touch ID, and both keys must match for a user to log in.

Passkeys rely on iCloud Keychain, which requires two-factor authentication for added security. Passkeys can be synced across a user's iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices, and they can also be used on non-Apple devices through a QR code system.

Amazon has announced that passkey support is now available for all Amazon customers using browsers, and it will soon be rolled out to the Amazon app for iOS devices.
