OpenAI has recently introduced enhancements to ChatGPT, available on Apple and Android devices. These upgrades include AI voice options, allowing users to hear the chatbot's responses, as well as image analysis capabilities. The image feature is comparable to the existing functionality offered by Google's Bard chatbot at no cost.

After extensively testing ChatGPT and pushing its boundaries, I continue to be both amazed and unsettled by OpenAI's chatbot. While I was impressed with the web browsing beta available in ChatGPT Plus, I couldn't help but worry about its impact on online writers who rely on income. The introduction of the new image feature for OpenAI subscribers evoked similar conflicting emotions in me.

Although I haven't personally had a chance to try out the new audio features like some of my colleagues, I did get the chance to test the upcoming image capabilities. In this article, I will explain how to use the new image search feature in ChatGPT and provide some helpful tips to get you started.

To use ChatGPT's new image features, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure you are using the latest version of ChatGPT.
  2. Open a ChatGPT conversation.
  3. Click the "+" button in the prompt area to add an image input.
  4. Choose the image that you want to send from your computer.
  5. Optionally, you can use your finger to draw a circle around specific areas of the image that you want ChatGPT to focus on.
  6. Click the "Upload" button.
  7. ChatGPT will analyze the image and generate a response based on what it sees.

You can use ChatGPT's image features to ask questions about objects in images, analyze documents, or explore visual content. For example, you could:

  • Snap a photo of a landmark while traveling and ask ChatGPT what it is and what's interesting about it.
  • Take a picture of your fridge and pantry to figure out what's for dinner and ask ChatGPT for a step-by-step recipe.
  • Upload a product photo to ChatGPT and ask it to compare prices from different retailers.
  • Ask ChatGPT to identify and label objects in a photo.
  • Ask ChatGPT to analyze the sentiment of a photo or video.

Here are some additional tips for using ChatGPT's image features:

  • Upload clear and well-lit images. The better the image quality, the better ChatGPT will be able to analyze it.
  • If you are asking a question about a specific object in an image, try to draw a circle around it before uploading the image. This will help ChatGPT to focus on the correct object.
  • Be specific. The more specific your query is, the more likely ChatGPT is to comprehend it.
  • If ChatGPT doesn't understand your question, try rephrasing it. You can also use other keywords.
  • If you have any feedback on ChatGPT's image features, please share it with OpenAI. This will help them to improve the tool in the future.
ChatGPT's image features are still under development, but they have the potential to be a powerful tool for learning and understanding the world around us.
